in the car
on the way to
school today,
i heard a little
whine from the backseat…
“daddy! my finger hurts!”
we were at a
stoplight, so i turned
to her and asked,
“which one?”
“this one!” she
yelled back at me.
i started laughing immediately.
“don’t laugh, daddy!”
i tried to compose
myself as i reached
for my phone,
the whole time saying,
“which one? which one?”
hoping that she’d keep
it up long enough
for me to photograph.
she cooperated, and
i was lucky enough
to preserve this
special moment
for her future.

and of course,
as soon as
she got to school,
she had to show
all of her friends
her new band-aid.
